Harlem Hamfats, formed in 1936, were known for their own brand of dirty blues and very danceable music, which blended Blues, Dixieland, and Jazz Swing. In 2025 they get an official remix from Extra Medium which is also very suitable for the dancefloors of today, and is equally dirty as the original material, but this time it’s the bassline which provides the dirt.
Extra Medium takes the original classical and flips it into a hot hot DnB/Dubwise number. With a tight skanking dubwise guitar, clean drums, and chest rattling 808s and reese basslines, this remix is a celebration of past & present. Taking the brass stabds and vocals hooks from the original, Extra Medium breathes new life into this Harlem Hamfats classic, ready for any DnB dancefloor.
Extra Medium is a Bristol born producer that has been taking on the influences of the city’s underground music scene and fusing it with Jazz music. His love for Jazz and obscure sampling has led him to fuse the rolling sounds of drum and bass and the big shuffling energy of UK Garage. Creating a unique and big take on bass driven dance music.

Harlem Hamfats. Chicago jazz band formed in 1936. Initially, they mainly provided backup music for jazz and blues singers, such as Johnny Temple, Rosetta Howard, and Frankie Jaxon, for Decca Records.Their first record, “Oh! Red”, became a hit, securing them a Decca contract for fifty titles, and they launched a successful recording career performing danceable music.
